Harvest Update:

Overall things are looking very promising for the 2005 harvest! After a long dry July, and a bit of worrying, we finally got the relief we needed in the first week of August in the amount of 30mm of rain. This bit of moisture is just enough to see us though until harvest time.

This year we planted one hectare of Viognier, bringing our total Viognier planting to 1.7 hectares. Now we have more babies to take care of, better watch out for those rabbits they love to eat young plants.

Recent Awards:

In April we where told by the Best 100 Vins De Pays organization that our 2004 Camplazens Syrah Vin de Pays, had been chosen as the top red out of over 1,000 wines! Our 2004 Midi Syrah was also included in the Best 100.

A presentation of the Trophy and a tasting was held May 17th at the London Wine Fair. What a wonderful day. Peter was unable to attend but I was escorted by Stuart Edwards from City Beverages who is a dear friend of Chateau Camplazens.

Then came the news that the 2004 Camplazens Syrah has been award a Gold medal in the Decanter Magazine competition! The results will be published in the October issue.
Vineyard Visits:

In mid July we were very happy to have some visitors to Camplazens. Jon Smith, owner of Cork and Bottle in New Orleans came with his friend Philip Hantle and managed to catch some of the Tour de France as well. Ken Catandella & Victoria Augustine who visit the Languedoc each summer were able to join us for lunch again this year, and what a lunch it was! Johnny Pearson the Director of Prestige Agencies who handles our wines in England came for a few days, and Alex Javadi of Zachy's in New York who is a good friend of the family joined us for dinner one night when he was staying in Carcassonne. We hope that all our visitors had a lovely time, and now have a better understanding of Camplazens.

For those of you who have visited Chateau Camplazens and plan on doing so again, you will be pleased to know that in the next two weeks we will have a new road surface so you will not have to endure the pot holes any more, and your car will leave intact!

Happy Drinking
